Samuel Cooper
Samuel Cooper, son of Richard Cooper and Barbara Hoskins, learned – like his brother Alexander – miniature painting from his uncle and guardian, John Hoskins. He worked with him until around 1642, the year in which he married Christina Turner. In 1663 King Charles II appointed him “King’s Limner”. Even during his own lifetime he achieved international fame and today he is still regarded as one of the greatest miniature painters.
